Highland Hospital's ATR Project is being designed from the ground up to conserve energy and promote sustainability. In accordance with the Green Buildings Ordinance enacted by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, the new buildings will attain–at a minimum–a Silver certification through the national LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program.

• A comprehensive energy plan that includes high-efficiency mechanical equipment, low-emissivity (low-E) glazing, smart air-conditioning zones, and long-life, high efficiency lighting that uses less electricity and minimizes replacement costs.
• A high-efficiency water system to reduce consumption.
• Maximum use of "green" building materials.
• Recycling of materials from demolished buildings to minimize landfill impacts.

By conserving energy and increasing efficiency, the ATR Project will allow Highland Hospital to focus its resources where they matter most: on providing and expanding high-quality healthcare to all people in our community, today and for many years to come.
